Terms of Service

Effective 6 October 2026 · Applies to the Swipture app for iOS and Android

The short version

  • Reading scripture in Swipture is free, for good. The King James Version, World English Bible and Douay-Rheims feed, offline reading, search, highlights, collections, the study panel, Pause & Reflect, listening and sharing verses never need a subscription.
  • Premium is optional. It adds the Sepia, Midnight and Dawn themes, extra highlight colours, notes, narration while you scroll, guided reflection questions, extra reminders, reading plans and share styles, and removes ads. The weekly plan starts with a 3-day free trial and the annual plan with a 7-day free trial.
  • Cancel in one tap. Settings → Manage subscription opens your store's own subscription screen. You keep Premium until the end of the period you paid for.
  • Your reading data lives only on your phone — see the Privacy Policy.

1. Agreement

These terms are an agreement between you and FaithApp ("we", "us"), the publisher of Swipture, for your use of the Swipture app. By using Swipture you accept them. If you downloaded Swipture from the Apple App Store, Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies; if from Google Play, Google Play's Terms of Service also apply. Where these terms conflict with the store's terms on purchases, the store's terms win.

2. What is free

The core of Swipture is free and will stay free: the infinite-scroll feed of the King James Version, the World English Bible and the Douay-Rheims (Challoner revision), in order or shuffled, resuming at the exact verse you left; offline reading of every verse with no download; verse search; chapter progress and the overall progress view; single-colour highlights; saving verses to collections; the study panel (cross-references and the same verse in plain English, where available — see section 9); Pause & Reflect and your Journal; the daily reminder; light and dark themes and text settings; listening to a chapter read aloud by your phone's voice; and sharing a verse. The free version shows ads (section 8).

3. Swipture Premium

Premium is an optional upgrade that adds:

  • Sepia, Midnight and Dawn reading themes;
  • five extra highlight colours;
  • notes on verses;
  • narration that reads each verse aloud as you scroll;
  • reading plans — starting a plan, marking days read, and following along as you read (every plan can be browsed for free, and a plan you started stays visible if Premium ends);
  • four extra styles for the image of a verse you share (the Classic style stays free);
  • guided questions in Pause & Reflect (writing a reflection stays free);
  • an evening reminder and a reading-plan reminder (the daily reminder stays free);
  • no ads.

Premium is offered as a weekly subscription, an annual subscription, or a one-time lifetime purchase. The current plans and prices, in your currency, are shown in the app before you buy; the price you are charged is the one the store shows you at checkout. Premium applies to the store account you bought it with and can be restored on another phone with that account using Restore purchases.

4. Billing, renewal and cancelling

  • Who charges you. Payment is taken by Apple or Google through your store account, not by us.
  • Weekly and annual subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each period, at the price then in effect, unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends. The weekly plan is billed every week.
  • Lifetime is a single payment; it does not renew and there is nothing to cancel.
  • Cancelling takes one tap from the app: Settings → Manage subscription opens the App Store or Google Play subscription screen, where you cancel. You can also cancel from your store account settings. Cancelling stops the next renewal; you keep Premium until the end of the period you have already paid for.
  • Price changes. If the price of a subscription changes, the store will notify you as its rules require before the new price applies.

5. Free trials

The weekly subscription starts with a 3-day free trial and the annual subscription with a 7-day free trial, for readers who are eligible under the store's rules (usually, those who have not had a trial or subscription before). The lifetime purchase has no trial, because the stores do not offer trials on one-time purchases.

Before you start a trial, the app shows its length, the price you will pay afterwards and how often (for example, "7 days free, then $39.99 a year"), and the exact date of the first charge. Unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends, the subscription begins and you are charged on that date. Cancelling during a trial ends it without charge, as the store's rules provide. The price you see in the app is the store's, in your currency.

6. Refunds

Because purchases are made through Apple or Google, refunds are decided by them under their refund policies. Apple: reportaproblem.apple.com. Google Play: request a refund from your Google Play order history. Nothing in these terms limits any refund or cancellation right you have under the consumer law of your country.

7. When Premium ends

If a subscription ends, Premium features stop and ads return; everything free keeps working. Highlights you made in extra colours stay on your device and keep their colours; you cannot add new highlights in those colours without Premium. Notes you wrote also stay on your device, and you can still open and read every one of them; writing a new note or editing one requires Premium, and if you subscribe again you can edit them as before. If you were using the Sepia, Midnight or Dawn theme, the app switches to the Light theme. The evening and reading-plan reminders are switched off; the daily reminder keeps working.

8. Ads

The free version shows ads served by Google AdMob: an ad page between verses in the feed (never before the fifth verse you read, then about one in every fifteen), a banner on the other screens, "Sponsored" cards in some lists, and occasionally a full-screen ad when you switch tabs — never in your first session, never while a sheet is open or audio is playing, and only a few times per session. Each ad page has a "Remove ads" link. Ads are never personalised and never use your reading history. We do not control the content of individual ads; if you see one that is inappropriate, please tell us.

9. Scripture and study content

  • The King James Version, the World English Bible and the Douay-Rheims (Challoner revision) are in the public domain.
  • Cross-references come from OpenBible.info, based on the Treasury of Scripture Knowledge, used under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 licence (CC BY 4.0); they are credited wherever they appear. They follow the King James numbering, so they are shown with the King James Version and World English Bible only.
  • The app's fonts, EB Garamond and Inter, are used under the SIL Open Font License 1.1.

Study material is provided for reading and reference. It does not represent the doctrinal position of any church, and Swipture offers no religious, pastoral, medical or professional advice. Swipture contains no AI-generated scripture or commentary.

10. Your notes and reflections

What you write in Swipture — notes and reflections — belongs to you. It stays on your device; we never receive it and claim no rights in it.

11. Your data on your device

Your reading history, progress, highlights, notes, collections and reflections are stored only on your phone and are never backed up to the cloud or copied to a new phone. If you uninstall the app, change phones, or use Delete My Data, they are permanently lost and we cannot recover them, because we never had a copy. Please keep this in mind. Details are in the Privacy Policy.

12. Acceptable use

You may use Swipture for your own personal, non-commercial use. Please do not reverse-engineer, resell or redistribute the app, interfere with its ads or purchases, or use it in a way that breaks the law or the rights of others. Public-domain and openly licensed content in the app remains available under its own terms.

13. Our rights in the app

We grant you a personal, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the app on devices you own or control, under these terms and the store's rules. The app's design, code, name and logo belong to us. The content listed in section 9 is not ours and remains under its own terms.

14. No warranty

To the extent the law allows, Swipture is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind. We work to make it reliable and accurate, but we do not promise it will be uninterrupted or error-free.

15. Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss of data stored on your device. Our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid for Swipture in the twelve months before the claim.

Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded by law, or affects your statutory rights as a consumer.

16. Changes

We may update these terms. If a change materially affects you, we will tell you in the app before it takes effect. We will never take a feature listed as free in section 2 and make it paid.

17. Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of India, and its courts have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer resident elsewhere, you keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country you live in.
